Brendan J. McCarthy was raised in McLean, Virginia, and attended the College of William and Mary, where he graduated with a B.A. in Government in 1986. He obtained his legal education at the College of William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law, graduating in 1989. He was a Regional Finalist and National Championship Quarterfinalist in the American Bar Assocation’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition. During his first year of law school, he competed and served as a captain for William and Mary’s Cross Country and Track Teams.

Mr. McCarthy has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1989. His practice focuses primarily on commercial, class action, and construction litigation concerning state and federal issues. Mr. McCarthy also handles a variety of business matters including corporation formation (resolution of shareholder disputes, business acquisitions, and contract, employment, securities, and estate planning matters). Mr. McCarthy has extensive experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution methods, including mediation and arbitration. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Mr. McCarthy is active in pro bono work through the Saturday Lawyers’ Program of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and is a member of The Lawyers Club of Atlanta. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chapter of the Society of the Alumni of The College of William and Mary, having served several terms as president. Mr. McCarthy is a graduate of the FocusCobb Class of 1996 sponsored by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. Mr. McCarthy is a member of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He has been an active participant in his neighborhood, having served as Chair of the Legacy Park Town Council and as Vice President and a member of the Legacy Park Community Association, Inc.’s Board of Directors.

Mr. McCarthy co-authored Chapter 3, "Commercial Construction Projects," Construction Joint Ventures: Forms and Practice Guide (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1992) and an article in The Construction Lawyer (July, 1997), on delay claims involving the Miller Act, Little Miller Acts, and common law payment bonds. Mr. McCarthy's latest article is due for publication by the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
